What does an IQ of 140 mean?
An IQ of 140 places you roughly two and two-thirds standard deviations above the population mean of 100. That is the top 0.4% of the population — fewer than 1 in 250 people. Most modern classifications label this band "Genius" or "Exceptionally Gifted".
This is the score range historically associated with elite academic, scientific, and creative work — though the historical practice of attaching specific IQ numbers to famous figures (Einstein at 160, Newton at 190, etc.) is almost entirely retrospective speculation, not actual measurement.
